WELCOME TO TAHKO WATER ROUTE!

Tahko Water Route connects two popular tourist targets in Finland - Kuopio town and Tahko Holiday Resort. The water route between them offers peaceful countryside, clear lakes, beautiful islands, winding rivers, small canals, country villages and towns, and a well-marked water route with plenty of small natural and guest harbours.

Tahko Water Route is one of the only routes in Finland planned solely for pleasure boating. The route was opened in 2002 when two new self-service locks Juankoski and Karjalankoski were built and an older lock from 1906 was modernized in Lastukoski village. From the beginning the route has been very popular among Finnish boaters.

Tahko Water Route from Kuopio town to Tahko Holiday Resort is about 90 km (48 nautical miles) long. It is part of the Great Saimaa Lake system. Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland and the fourth largest lake in Europe. Canals link it to many other lakes thus making it one
of the most extensive inland waterways in Europe. Saimaa Lake system has a connection to the Gulf of Finland through the Saimaa Canal
