ATTRACTIONS
There is plenty to do and plenty to see by Tahko Water Route! All the
places listed here are situated by the water route and have a pier or
harbour within walking distance.
KUOPIO TOWN (founded in 1775)
Kuopio is one of the most popular summer towns in Finland.
Must see
attractions are Puijo Tower with its revolving panoramic restaurant,
the lively marketplace and the art-deco Market Hall,
as well as the Orthodox
Church Museum of Finland. Visit www.kuopioinfo.fi/english and
you'll find many other interesting sights. Kuopio also has the widest
choice of inland cruises in Finland.
Spa Hotel and Camping Rauhalahti in Kuopio has Jätkänkämppä loggers
cabin with traditional Finnish evenings and
a huge smoke sauna, and the
home of Uppo-Nalle the Teddy Bear for children.
Alahovi Berry-Wine Farm and Wine Tavern on the Island of Vaajasalo
makes and sells berry juices, wines and liqueurs.
Uudistalo Farm is an old country inn and offers Finnish food
(also take-away food), a Country Pub, sauna and smoke sauna (you can
even rent a cottage and a traditional smoke sauna on
an island), and
activities for the whole family.
SIILINJÄRVI VILLAGE
In Siilinjärvi there are two spas, Kunnonpaikka
in Vuorela village and Fontanella in the centre of Siilinjärvi,
about 500 m from the harbour.
MUURUVESI VILLAGE
In Muuruvesi village the old picturesque
harbour has
2 guest berths, a café and a place for cooking by an open fire
and having picnics. Nearby there is a village shop, a beautiful stone
church built between 1901-1904 in a Finnish National Romantic style,
a small local history museum, and a biological farm shop Topin
Maatilamyymälä -
well worth a visit.
In Muuruvesi there is also the only Berry Wine
Information and Research Centre in the world. Its Wine Shop and Café are open in the afternoon,
closed Sun-Mon. Tours and tasting sessions for groups by order. The harbour
has 4 guest berths, septic tank, and sauna.
JUANKOSKI TOWN
In Juankoski town centre you'll find one
of the oldest ironworks factories in Finland. The area is well preserved, the small
museum interesting, the market place lively, and several cafes and Niskakoski
Hotel-Restaurant with a large summer terrace inviting. Guided tours
and cruises are available. The Niskakoski guest
harbour has 12 guest
berths. There is a fuel station, a pump for septic tanks and bilge water
tanks, and sauna services.
NILSIÄ TOWN
Nilsiä town has a small but beautiful and friendly
guest harbour. You can wash clothes, take a shower, refuel, empty septic
tank
and bilge water, eat and drink... and all the shops and restaurants
of Nilsiä town centre are nearby.
By Lastukoski´s lock car park you'll find
a marked path to the Pisa nature reserve area. On the top of the Pisa
Hill 270.6 m above sea level there is an observation tower, a picnic
place and
a boundary mark of the Treaty of Täyssinä between
Russia and Sweden in 1595. Lastukoski also has a café-pizzeria-kiosk.
Lastukoski rapids are a good place for sports fishing.
In Tahko Holiday Resort you'll find just about everything: golf,
riding, tennis, hiking, water jets, ATV safaris, fishing, shooting, cruises,
sailing, parasailing, climbing, mountain biking, beach-volley, a breathtaking
lake scenery, good restaurants, accommodation in hotels, apartments and
cottages, events, competitions, concerts, opera... For boats the services
are scarce but you will find toilets and saunas for boaters in the Piazza
restaurant.
